The « Empress of fashion », is behind the success of Harper’s and later, of American Vogue.
She was one of the most extravagant personalities of fashion history.
From 1936, in Harper’s Bazaar, she had a special column called « Why don’t you…? » where she invited women to dare new attitudes.
She told them : Why don't you be ingenious and make yourself into something else ?
